About this column:
The information you need to know to get you from point A to point B when bad weather strikes. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook warning for DuPage County, beginning this evening and continuing through the early morning hours on Saturday. Thunderstorms producing cloud to ground lightning are expected along with moderate to heavy rainfall. Precipitation along the frontal boundary of the low pressure storm system is of particular concern, due to it possibly leading to "prolonged periods" of rain in excess of an inch. Due to possible high rainfall and recent snow melt, flooding is also a concern. Another round of thunderstorms is expected mid-week next …
Friday Looks like the National Weather Service was a bit overzealous. There's not exactly five inches of snow piled up out there. Thursday Just when the weather finally warms up again (a little), it goes away as fast as it came. Hope everyone got to open their windows up for a little while today and get some fresh air, because the snow starts again tonight. The National Weather Service has put out a hazardous weather advisory for the area starting tonight and continuing through Friday. Snowfall totals of between three and five inches is expected, with some areas possibly getting as much as …
You can add your own photos too! Share with us, and let's get pictures from all over Glen Ellyn documenting the storm. For the moment, I think I'm still stuck inside.
Paul Sirvatka, a professor of meteorology at College of DuPage says you need to be home by 6 p.m. tonight, no joking! He even reccommends taking the day off tomorrow. According to Sirvatka, if we get over 17 inches of snow tonight, that puts us in the top five largest snowfalls on record! If we get over 20, we get pushed to the top three! "It really is that bad out there," Sirvatka said. "Have you looked outside recently? It's really starting to come down and this is just the start. This is a storm to rival the '67 blizzard." But when meteorologists say blizzard, what exactly are they talking…
Wednesday, Jan. 12 Update: 6 a.m. Snow has stopped and it doesn't seem we got much more overnight. Looks like we could get a little more on Thursday evening. According to my records, we topped out at just barely under three inches. Tuesday Jan. 11: Update: 5 p.m. The snow has finally stopped falling and we're just under three inches in my (amateur) recording of the snowfall today. More to come tonight supposedly. Check back tomorrow to see where we ended up! Update: 2:45 p.m. Getting pretty close to three inches right now and it's still snowing. Even though it's died down a little, it keeps …
It just keeps falling. Glen Ellyn is expected to get around three inches of snow today and over tonight. Bundle up and allow extra time for your commutes, as unplowed streets and fresh snow make conditions ripe for traffic accidents. Some areas around Chicago are now expected to receive five to six inches over today and tonight, according to the Chicago Weather Center blog. While it looks like communities on the north side of Chicago will be hit the hardest, I'm expecting Glen Ellyn to be well over three inches by tomorrow morning, since we're at two and a half inches already. Might be a good…
