Preuss, one of seven inductees out of a field of 60 who were nominated, is in his 29th year. His cross country teams have qualified for the state meet nine times, and finished in the top six a total of six times. It’s easy to tell that Katie, Chris and Kevin Watt of Glen Ellyn are siblings. For one thing, they’re all redheads. But here are a few more tidbits unique to the Watt kids: Chris and Kevin are linemen for major NCAA Division I college football programs. Last fall, Kevin, a redshirt junior, started 12 of 13 games as a defensive lineman for Northwestern. Chris, a redshirt freshman, was a reserve left guard with Notre Dame and could move into the Fighting Irish’s starting lineup in 2011. Meet Alex Diab, one of the top gymnasts in Glen Ellyn and on everyone’s radar across the nation. Alex is the son of Mark and Jennifer Diab, owners of Premier Gymnastics Academy. The oldest of five children, Alex has been doing gymnastics since he was 2 years old. Because of his early start, he is in level 9 in competitive gymnastics.Alex has been fortunate enough to travel for many of his competitions. Glen Ellyn resident Serena Harnack comes from a musical family. Her mom is a longtime piano teacher, musician and member of the 7DEEZ; a disco, funk, Motown tribute band that she plays in with her husband. But their 12-year-old daughter Serena is no stranger to performance as well. Serena is a scholarship recipiant of the Music Institute of Chicago Academy and has a full schedule of performances this season. This week for Person You Should Know, we chose to spotlight a Glenbard West student who recently achieved a perfect score of 36 on his ACT. Last season, former Glenbard West basketball star John Shurna helped Northwestern University chalk up a school-best 20 victories and make it to the National Invitation Tournament for the second consecutive year. He averaged 18.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, leading the Wildcats in both categories.
