To the Editor: National Night Out We would like to thank all the organizations, local businesses, sponsors and volunteers that helped make the 6th National Night Out at the Village of Campton Hills a successful and well attended event!  Our goal to bring community residents and their families together, have fun and provide awareness about our local police, fire, non-for-profit organizations and local small businesses was achieved.  Sincerely, Chief Daniel Hoffman and The Campton Hills Community Relations Committee
On Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, when most families are running out to the neighborhood barbecue, one Wheaton family sat in an airplane hangar waiting for their son to return home from war.  Sadly, they weren't able to greet him with hugs, kisses or the promise of a weekend filled with new memories. They were met with a flag-draped casket, only to be left with memories past. Memorial Day weekend is the one time of year when Americans are supposed to remember, reflect and give thanks to those who fought so bravely for this country. So on this holiday weekend, emotions were even more …
When I first took over Glen Ellyn Patch in April, Matthew, the previous editor, told me about a "community board" where residents were free to discuss various topics about Glen Ellyn. He told me it was an online space I should keep my eye on because residents felt it was a trusted place for discourse. So it began, my daily visit to Glen-Ellyn.com. I quickly learned what mattered most, and I was impressed that so many of you used it to share information, including village officials.I marveled at how Glen Ellyn had a piece of cyberspace, "geographic boundaries" on the Web where people could tune…

Hello Readers, I just wanted to take a moment to wish the Glen Ellyn community a fond farewell. Starting on Monday, April 11, I will be transferring to the Patch.com site in La Grange, IL. It will be difficult to say goodbye to Glen Ellyn as I have very much enjoyed working here for the last eight months. Glen Ellyn is an amazing community and it has been an honor to get to know so many of you.  Starting on Monday, Patch freelancer Alex Keown will be taking my place as our guest editor. He's an accomplished journalist with many years of experience and I feel very comfortable leaving the site …
As a Glen Ellyn resident, homeowner, taxpayer and father of four small children, I am deeply concerned about District 87 administration’s decision to pursue field lighting at Memorial Field. The district’s key selling point when proposing to install field turf was student safety. Well, it appears the district has achieved the exact opposite of its intended purpose, and is on a clear path to making it much worse, not only for its students, but for surrounding residents and non-residents alike. In February 2010, the village of Glen Ellyn hired Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co. at a cost of $44,…
Today on Glen Ellyn Patch, we're finally making it out of the blizzard. After 2 1/2 days of snow coverage, it feels right to get back on with life.  Our top stories to lead the day today are all about dreams. We chose to run them both as separate articles to give the full story on two College of DuPage students who are really going for gold.  Both subjects in our stories are basketball players on the Chaprralls team, but come from very different backgrounds. Jermaine Townes is a nearly 40-year-old veteran who's going back to school and trying to everything he can out of it. Kosuke Hirama  is …
