Updated: Dec. 11, 9:30 a.m. A special event is being held Tuesday night at Shannon’s Irish Pub to rally around the family of a Glen Ellyn wife and mother, who suffered an ischemic stroke in October. Friends and family of Amy Kaminski planned the event and the funds raised will be used to defray medical bills and help with other costs the family has incurred since Kaminski was hospitalized on Oct. 11. Take out, order delivery or use Skuddlebutts to cater an event on Dec. 1 and 2 and the restaurant will donate 10 percent of its earnings to the fire company. Glen Ellyn commuters are jazzed about their java and Next Stop Coffee Shop is seeing the results. Since opening in July, the number of cups of coffee Next Stop is selling has doubled, according to the owner Craig Yerly. But, not only are commuters happily caffeinated, they are enjoying sweets too. Yerly and his wife, Joy, purchased the coffee shop, located inside Glen Ellyn's Metra station, from longtime owner Dotty Flicek earlier this year. What better way to celebrate hockey than with brats, sauerkraut and pretzels. Whether you are a fan of hockey or not, a fundraiser this weekend will serve up sausage, suds and other grub while raising money for the Admirals Hockey Club. The fundraiser will help with locker room renovations at the club’s home ice, Center Ice of DuPage, and will also help support the club’s hardship program for players in need.
