Visions for Vacancies: Crescent Boulevard Shop

A weekly column asking readers what types of businesses they'd like to see in vacant storefronts around Glen Ellyn.

Businesses come and go. So we wondered what Glen Ellyn readers would like to see fill some of the vacant locations around town.

Paper lines the windows of this downtown location and nothing appears to be happening at the storefront, which is located near Chin’s Chop Suey and The Glen Art Theatre.

This location on Crescent Boulevard appears to be in a good spot for foot traffic. The exterior of the shop, was once painted to give it an old-time shoppe feel.

What type of business do you think would be a great addition to the downtown and would do well at this location?

This store is very near the high school and high school kids are often in the area dying their lunch breaks. Wonder if a shop which has things like jeans and tops would work. Most of our store are very expensive. Something less pricey might be useful. Even socks and ubderwear ( now tat Knickers is gone). Kids might be able to spend their own money rather than have to bring mom and her wallet along. Jst a thought.

Spelling corrections to the above comment: during, stores, underwear, that, just. (No thanks to automatic spelling adjustment. Ha.)

I think all of these sound like nice ideas.

I think products created by local craftspersons would sell very well. I'm thinking homemade soaps, candles, jewelry, knitwear, pillows, decorative items, handmade stationary and cards. Also some smaller vintage jewelry items priced to sell at a reasonal cost could be included.

I'll just wait to see what Obama builds there along with the other vacant stoefronts!

Huh? why are you bringing politics into this? Why add a nasty inference about Obama? So far the comments have been nice and constructive. Can't you contribute in a positive way? We're getting enough nastiness on TV, etc. Let's help, not hinder Glen Ellyn.

New restaurants. I love Glen Ellyn. It's a great place to live and the downtown amenities are awesome.
