As Village Links Completion Nears, Construction Depends on Weather
Village Links of Glen Ellyn construction progress will be dependent upon spring weather in the near future. Contractor concerned it could be done as late as June 30.
With golf season around the corner, crews at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn have been working since fall to complete renovations and meet a target May 31 completion date.
Village Recreation Director Matt Pekarek said Wednesday he thinks parts of the work the village is doing itself should be done before May 31, depending on the weather, and that there will probably be a "phased turnover" of improvements as the date nears.
But contracting firm E.P. Doyle is not as confident they'll hit the May 31 deadline for their portion of the work. The contractor wrote in a recent letter to Village Links that the project is at risk of not being completed by May 31, and that they may not be done by June 30, according to Pekarek's March 9 construction update to the community.
"E.P. Doyle is frustrated over the large volume of changes and pricing requests on this project. They said that the amount of time spent managing design and pricing changes is hampering their ability to accomplish work in the field. They understand our interest in managing and lowering costs, but hope that we can help them expedite changes moving forward," Pekarek wrote.
Moving forward, the general "priority plan" puts completing the new kitchen first, followed by the banquet room, bar and dining room. The lowest priorities will be updates to the patio and restrooms, according to the update.

The board approved a construction contract and a sale of more than $5 million in bonds in September, estimating the total renovation project would cost $6.3 million.
The project includes expansion of the bar, dining room, banquet room, restrooms, patio and driving range to include a bigger grass tee and a permanent turf tee line. Parking will be added to the circle drive and new putting greens are being built near each first tee, according to the Village Links site.
