Subway Opening Soon in Downtown Glen Ellyn
The restaurant could open as soon as Saturday, Oct. 29.
A national sandwich chain will soon open its doors in downtown Glen Ellyn.
A Subway shop is opening at 572 Crescent Blvd., right across the street from the Glen Ellyn Metra Train Depot and just down the street from Glenbard West High School.
The restaurant is slated to open Saturday, Oct. 29 but the owner is waiting on some final touches that could push back the opening by a few days.
This marks the fourth business to open in downtown Glen Ellyn this year. Recently, a culinary retail store, Marcel's Culinary Experience, opened on Main Street along with the Asian Pearl restaurant. Cantina, a Mexican restaurant and bar opened this summer at 499 W. Pennsylvania Ave.
And that’s not all. Soon a dance studio will open next door to M and Em’s Children's Boutique, and a home gifts and decor shop will open on Main Street, where the Pink Hippo shop used to be located.
These new businesses are why the occupancy rates are on the rise. Recently, the Glen Ellyn Economic Development Corporation released a report that states since 2009, more storefronts are occupied in downtown Glen Ellyn.
It’s not just luck, according to the EDC. It’s been a combined effort to attract businesses to the downtown area. The EDC, Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn all work together to bring more diverse shops to the area.
“We have been very fortunate but we work really hard at it,” said Georgia Koch, executive director of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce.

Subway, Starbucks, my heavens we are in the 21st century. It does please me to see some of the vacant storefronts coming alive.
