Save the Date: Parent Series Screens Documentary, 'Louder Than a Bomb'
The next Glenbard Parent Series will be held Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. at Glenbard East High School.
Parents and teens are invited to attend the upcoming Glenbard Parent Series program, which will feature the power of words.
The program, part of the Navigating Healthy Parenting series, will feature the documentary Louder Than a Bomb, which chronicles the journey of four Chicago-area high school poetry slam teams as they prepare for an annual poetry slam.
The film screening, being held at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 is free to all who attend and parents are encouraged to bring their teen and his or her friends to the program, according to District 87.
This documentary is a stirring celebration of the transformational power of giving youth a voice, and how breaking down the artificial social/class/economic barriers changes the way youth, and adults, relate to each other, according to the district.
The film, produced and directed by filmmaker Jon Siskel, captures the turbulent lives of unforgettable kids, exploring the ways writing shapes their world, and vice versa, according to a news release.
“Louder Than a Bomb is not about "high school poetry" as we often think of it. It's about language as a joyful release, irrepressibly talented teenagers obsessed with making words dance,” the district said. “While the topics they tackle are often deeply personal, what they put into their poems—and what they get out of them—is universal: the defining work of finding one's voice.”
After the screening, there will be a discussion with the producer and a "special guest.”
Before the workshop begins, attendees are invited to arrive at 6:30 p.m. for a “Let’s Talk:” parent-to-parent, drop-in discussion group.
The Glenbard Parent Series program will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in the auditorium of Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main Street St., Lombard.
