From Special Olympics Illinois
Fans of Special Olympics have formed teams to solicit duck adoptions in the 7th Annual Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby for Special Olympics Illinois.
One of those teams is “Team Ernie” formed by Dave Tondu of Cab’s Wine Bar in Glen Ellyn.
Tondu hopes to top last year’s 985 duck adoptions by Team Ernie at local fundraisers in Glen Ellyn.
On Sunday, Cab’s Wine Bar, 430 Main St., will host a Splash Bash from 5 to 9 p.m.
Another fundraiser was held earlier in the month.
A $10 cover charge includes two duck adoptions, plus snacks, prizes and music.
The Windy City Rubber Ducky Derby to benefit Special Olympics Illinois takes place on August 9 at 1p.m. in the Chicago River at Michigan Avenue when more than 40,000 rubber ducks will splash down and race to the finish. First prize is a Chevy Equinox.
Duck adoptions are $5 each or a Quack Pack of six ducks for $25. Adopt a duck online or call 1-877-9-SPLASH.
