The word made its way through the throngs of people waiting for the return of the state champion Glenbard West Hilltoppers: when you hear the fire department sirens, you'll know the football team is getting close.

If anyone in Glen Ellyn had not heard about the Hilltoppers 10-8 victory over Lincoln-Way East in the Class 7A football championship, the Fire Department escort certainly helped bring that fact home to them.

The Hitters returned home with their perfect season intact. And as they do after every win, the team made its way to the bell, with each player tapping it to the delight of the crowd that had gathered on that cold hill.

For the seniors, it was the last time up that hill, but what a way to end their careers.

The crowd then returned to Biester Gym to see the Hitters and the the trophy they earned.
