New downtown business opens

Cooks looking for special olive oils and vinegars with an infusion of flavor now have a new option in Glen Ellyn. Olive ‘n Vinnie’s Market has opened it’s downtown location.

Gary and Karen Evensen, who live in Glen Ellyn, own the shop. This is their third location. The couple have two Olive 'n Vinnie's Market shops in Wisconsin. The announcement that the store was opened was made on the Downtown Glen Ellyn Alliance website Monday.

Olive ‘n Vinnie’s allows customers to taste a variety of oils and vinegars from around the world before purchasing. It offers extra-virgin olive oil imported from 14 countries around the world, as well as more than 20 types of balsamic vinegars from Mondena, Italy, said Gary Evensen. The oils and vinegars can be blended together to bring additional flavor to foods. 

Olive 'n Vinnie's is located at 540 N. Duane St. The stores' hours are Mon.-Sat., 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thurs., 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sun., 12 to 4 p.m. Call the store at 630-534-6457 (OILS).

Oberweis mooving in 2013

In May, Glen Ellyn Patch reported Oberweis Dairy’s plans to move up the road and open a new dining concept in the former Chase Bank location at 515 Roosevelt Road.

Obeweis was planning to open a dual restaurant that would continue to serve dairy products alongside a hamburger place, "That Burger Joint." The location would also house a Connie’s Pizza.

The concept, which was under review required zoning and permit approvals, but according to a story in the Chicago Tribune, the project is moving forward. The Village of Glen Ellyn’s Board of Trustees has awarded the developer $15,000 to use toward façade and sidewalk improvements. The bank has been empty for six years.
