Glenbard West freshman Alex Diab won the all-around title during Friday's IHSA boys gymnastics championship at Lincoln-Way East in Frankfort.
Diab had a bit of a mishap on vault which reduced his score to an 8.85 but that didn't keep him from producing a 56.7, which was just enough to knock off defending all-around champion, Lincoln-Way co-op senior Ajani Cargle, who had a 56.35.
Diab registered the top score of the night on four events: still rings (9.7), high bar (9.65), parallel bars (9.65) and pommel horse (9.45).
The Hilltoppers also were in action as a team and came up just short of heading back to Glen Ellyn with a trophy. They took a distant fourth place with a 152.6.
Wheaton co-op won the title with a 160.8, Lincoln-Way co-op was second with a 157.45 and Downers Grove North placed third with a 155.35.
