Glenbard West Grad Signs with the New York Knicks
John Shurna, a graduate of Glenbard West signed a deal Monday with the Knicks.
He made his mark first in Glen Ellyn and then at Northwestern. Now basketball standout John Shurna has made it to the big time in New York. And, as the song goes, if he can make it there, he can make it anywhere.
Glenbard West graduate Shurna was signed to the New York Knicks Monday, according to a story in the New York Times.
Shurna played college ball at Northwestern University and was named Big 10 Player of the Week back in February. While playing at Northwestern Shurna gained second-team all-Big Ten honors, and also was selected as the Most Improved Player in the nation by the Sporting News, Glen Ellyn Patch reported. He also set a team record while playing with the Wildcats.
He was signed to a one-year contract with the Knicks, according to the New York Times. The 6'9" Shurna will play at small forward. Earlier this year he received an honorable mention among top small forwards, according to the NBADraft.net
Northwestern has not had a graduate make the NBA since Evan Eschmeyer played for New Jersey and Dallas, according to a story in the Chicago Tribune.
