D41 Seeking Parents for Foreign Language Committees

As the district plans curriculum for its new foreign language programs, it is seeking parent involvement in the planning process.

In January, the District 41 Board of Education approved a foreign language program to be implemented at schools beginning in the 2013-14 school year.

Now, the district is seeking parental involvement to participate on committees related to the programs.

The Spanish Foreign Language at Elementary School (FLES) program will begin in first grade classes next year. In addition, the Spanish Bilingual program will be implemented at Churchill Elementary School.

The committees being formed will collaborate to develop curriculum and address implementation processes and procedures, according to District 41.

The district is specifically looking for parents with an interest in foreign language instruction and who enjoy collaborating with others on projects.

Parents interested in participating on the committees must apply by Feb 25. To apply or ask questions contact District 41 ELL/Bilingual Director Katie McCluskey.

Include the following information:

  • Your name
  • Your child's school
  • The committee you are interested in (FLES or Dual Language)
  • A brief statement telling why you would like to be on the committee and affirming that you will commit to attending all the meetings to the best of your ability
  • Your telephone number

Meetings planned for the committees will be held as follows:

FLES Committee: Feb. 27, March 11 and 13; April 3, 10, 24
Dual Language Committee: March 4 and 18
