Cameras Continue Creeping Into County Courthouses, Kendall the Latest
The DeKalb County and Lake County courthouses have also been cleared for cameras.
Three more counties have been cleared to have cameras inside their courthouses.
The Illinois Supreme Court announced that cameras in courtrooms have been approved for the new 23rd Circuit, which included Kendall County and DeKalb County, and in Lake County in the 19th Circuit, according to a story in the Elgin Courier-News.
According to the story, "Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon has said he expects to have cameras operating in Kane courtrooms sometime this year."
The Illinois Press Association has reported that is up to the chief judge in each the state's 23 circuits to decide whether to allow courtroom cameras.
"The policy will allow for up to two video cameras and two still cameras in a courtroom at the same time. Cameras would not be allowed in juvenile, divorce, adoption, child custody and evidence suppression cases," according to an Illinois Press Association report.
The 12th Judicial Circuit, which is Will County's circuit, does not allow cameras in courtrooms. Since the courtroom camera project began a year ago, 25 counties in nine judicial circuits have participated, the Courier-News story said.

Cameras in Will County courts? Obviously they prefer to work in darkness and secret.
Isn't that what the Patriot Act taught us- " If you don't have anything to hide..."
Besides, who wants a daily 2 1/2 hour-dose of Glasglow combing his pompadour.

How about cameras in the White House and in Congress? Now that is a great start. And everytime they violate their oath to the People or the Constitution the corrupt politicians pay a fine!

That was taken care of by ole Benjamin Franklin..who liked to get drunk and go around the towns telling things that were just discussed in congress..It caused mass hysteria..people didn't know what was going on...simple things at were just mentioned would be war by the time it hit the other coasts...Which is why now congress is behind closed doors and not open to the public..but in today's times we can better understand but we also cause mass hysteria still today..it's a catch 22..just some of the stupid ideas these politicians have if they ever made it to public eye people would be calling for the resIgnation of all congress members..

I concur John. I just emailed Joe saying the same thing, in different words. Its happened several times before that ive noted when we speak of Will county politics, yet people freely swear and post racially biased things with no censorship. Why is that? I think we know why, but i would still like to hear it from the horses mouth even if by email. Lets see if ill get a response....

I'm beginning to think that the Patch comments should be disabled. You used to be able to have a sane conversation but they've degenerated into an infestation of rants and name-calling. I'm avoiding Patch articles due to the ramblings of many of the recurring trolls. Doesn't matter the topic, it's simply become racist, profane, and pointless. Fox News hasn't allowed comments since last summer (like it would make their side look reasonable), now I know where they went. Very sad that free speech has to deal with those that put 10 or more rants from individuals who bring nothing to the conversation.

We need cameras in will county courts! Especially in the domestic viloience court room! Prevent the states attorney"s from covering up and making plea deals with offenders especiallly after a vivtim suffers from continues sevear abuse.making secret plea deals even after a victims wants to go to trial. All why the victim is on a order of protection. The police do there job! Time to make the states attorneys do there's!

Olddeegee, I couldn't agree with you more! These "comment" sections have become a sleazy forum for profanity and innane rants by the same offenders who must be nothing but frustrated, wanna-be writers. In my opinion, Mr. Nagel, there are far too few "comments" deleted. The Patch started out to be a resource for news, but it has worked its way into becoming a step above a check-out tabloid gossip rag. Clean up your act and get back to responsible news reporting.
