Brats and Brews on Tap at Admirals Hockey Fundraiser
Funds raised will help players in need and improve locker rooms.
What better way to celebrate hockey than with brats, sauerkraut and pretzels.
Whether you are a fan of hockey or not, a fundraiser this weekend will serve up sausage, suds and other grub while raising money for the Admirals Hockey Club.
The fundraiser will help with locker room renovations at the club’s home ice, Center Ice of DuPage, and will also help support the club’s hardship program for players in need.
A group of local families from the club decided to throw a party, dubbed HOCKtoberfest, to raise money for improvements to the locker rooms and common areas in the rink, said Steven Feinberg, who was doing publicity for the event.
The Admirals Hockey Club has more than 300 boys and girls ages 3 to 14, learning, competing and most importantly having fun playing hockey, the fastest game on earth, he said.
“Some kids who play hockey participate in other fall sports like football, and soccer. In general there’s been terrific support from friends and neighbors who may know a child in the program and want to help the Club as well as have a fun night out,” the club’s event organizers said.
So far about 100 people are expected to attend. The event is open to anyone who would like to attend, Feinberg said.
Along with the brats, there will be a cash bar, live music and an auction, with a variety of auction items including: Bears tickets – including limousine ride, Bulls tickets to the Harris Club and a stay at the W Hotel Lakeshore.
The event’s planners aren’t sure how much will be raised but are hopeful about the response, Feinberg said.
“The Club sees this as an investment in its future,” he said. “They hope to make this a Glen Ellyn tradition raising awareness of the club’s dedication to children trying to learn the one of the most challenging but exciting sports in the world.”
The fundraiser will be held 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at Gearhead Auto Repair. Cost to attend is $25 per person. Live music from Run 4 Covers. The master of ceremonies for the evening is John Wiedeman the Blackhawks radio play-by-play man. Blackhawks Ice Girls Crew will make an appearance. The waitstaff will be the Girls of the Tilted Kilt.
