85 Residents Without Water Due to Water Main Breaks
Five water main breaks occurred early this morning in Glen Ellyn.
A fluctuation in water pressure caused five water mains to break this morning throughout Glen Ellyn, leaving 85 residents without water, according to the Public Works Department.
Between 3:30 and 5:30 a.m. the two pumping stations in Glen Ellyn received water from the DuPage Water Commission that was spiking in pressure, according to Dave Buckley, assistant public works director.
The water pressure in the lines increased by almost 50 percent during the two hours of fluctuation. Typically, the water comes in from the DuPage Water Commission at 55-60 psi (pounds per square inch). But early this morning the pressure spiked and continually fluctuated between 80-100 psi, according to Buckley.
"It's hard for our machinery to deal with that," said Buckley.
Right now, crews are at the multiple scenes trying to fix the breaks. Buckley said he hopes to have all of the 85 residents back on line by 3:30 p.m.
