State Rep. Sandra Pihos Named "Friend of Agriculture"
Representative Sandra Pihos (R-Glen Ellyn) has received the “Friend of Agriculture” award from the Illinois Agricultural Association (IAA).
Pihos received the award earlier this month when seven members from the McDonough, DuPage and Cook County Farm Bureaus visited with Pihos at her Glen Ellyn office and participated in tours of some College of DuPage facilities and the surrounding area.
“It was an honor to receive this recognition from these leaders in Illinois’ agricultural community,” said Pihos. “The IAA’s focus on efforts that support agriculture and education and specifically their focus on funding for agriculture in the classroom and relief effort for farm families are truly inspirational.”
According to officials from the IAA, legislators receiving this award recognize the far-reaching benefits of Illinois' agricultural products and the important role farmers play in providing quality food, fiber and fuel for our state, nation, and world.
While visiting the College of DuPage, the group toured the COD Homeland Security Education Building and the Culinary Hospitality Center. The group also had an opportunity to take a drive through Pihos’ legislative district, visit Stacey’s Tavern and Historical site, and they spent a great deal of time talking about the serious challenges that agriculture is facing in Illinois, mostly brought on my the drought.
Prior to the officials’ visit to the Glen Ellyn area, Pihos visited the McDonough County farming area and spoke to members of their Farm Bureau. During that visit Pihos also visited a dairy farm, a pig farm, and some grain farms. “I even drove some of their equipment so I could have a better understanding of how they use their technology to help make decisions,” Pihos said. “I was so appreciative that they took the time to visit my district and get to know the area I represent better.”
