Glen Ellyn Rebels Win Elite Tournament in South Carolina
The Glen Ellyn Rebels travel baseball squad defeated the Kendall Hammock Pirates (Miami, Florida) 6-5 to win the nationally recognized Cal Ripken Experience tournament for elite-level U14 teams, held between June 11th and 15th in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
All of the Rebels, coached by Scott Shoub, Paul Zuziak, Troy Hamilton and Dennis Curtis, are from Glen Ellyn. The Rebels finished the tournament with a 7-1 record and beat out teams from Australia, Ohio, North Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Missouri. Jack Stephens was named MVP of the championship game for pitching 2 scoreless innings and driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning.
The boys collected nearly $15,000 by conducting multiple community-based fundraisers in order pay for the tournament fees and their travel and lodging.
