Change a child's world in one hour a week!
The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center (GECRC) is seeking 150 volunteer tutors for its 2012-2013 after school program. The Resource Center’s mission is to provide literacy and life skills support to children living in low income households in Glen Ellyn.
The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center provides tutoring in all academic subjects for students grades K-5. Founded in 2002, the program served over 80 children from low-income families during the 2011-2012 school year. Nearly two-thirds of the students are immigrants and refugees, representing families from 14 different countries in North America, Asia, and Africa.
Tutoring begins on August 27 and will continue Mondays - Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm at Abraham Lincoln School in Glen Ellyn. Volunteers pick one day a week to come in for a minimum of one semester. Volunteers should be aged 15+ and will be paired with the same student each week and work on homework and other academic activities. GECRC Staff provides all the materials tutors need to work on age appropriate homework and literacy assistance as well as games and activities geared toward educational development.
Interested individuals should fill out an application online at www.gecrc.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org and then will be required to attend a Fall Volunteer Orientation and Training before beginning.
